Gerda was an American Field Service exchange student during our Senior year at Minico.  During the year, she lived with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Cook and their daughters Sandra and Karen on a farm north of Paul.  Information for this memoir was extracted from a letter sent to Sandra Cook Harshman from one of Gerda’s children.

Gerde Grobbelaar Fehrson passed away on May 10, 2022 in South Africa.  She was born October 25, 1947.  Gerde singlehandedly raised her four children.  She was a woman of faith and a farmer.  Her children grew up on the same farm where their mother was raised.

She is survived by her son Conrad and his wife Robyn and their two sons, her daughter Ilse Marie, her daughter Theresa and her husband Dylan, and her daughter Lezanne and her husband Anthonie and their three sons.

Services were held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Smitsriver Farm, Sterkstroom District.

I remember how impressed I was that she made the effort to get to know as many, if not all, of our class members. Sounds like she leaves a great legacy to her posterity.
