Monte Olson

RUPERT • Monte C Olson passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, from complications of a sudden illness.

Monte was born April 1, 1948, to Garth and Ramona Olson, the first of four children: Cindy, Carla and Brent Olson. Monte was raised in the Rupert/Burley area and attended school at Minico High School. Monte’s favorite pets were Candy, Buckwheat and Bubba. He helped work at Dad’s store then went to work for Jack Bell. He was drafted in 1969 and, while in the country, was wounded and sent back to the states to complete his duty. He then worked for Steve Schow until hurting his back. Monte then went on to college in Lewiston and graduated with top honors on the dean’s list and national dean’s list. After college, he moved to Boise and stayed there until his death. Monte worked for the Boise School District as a custodian and was loved by many of the faculty. They called him “Mo.”

Monte was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Lydia Miller and Roy and Nancy Fay Dunlap; father, Garth Olson; sister, Cindy Olson-Hansen; stepmother, Jean Olson; stepfather, Vernon Throckmorton; and stepbrother, Doyle Throckmorton. He is survived by his mother, Ramona Olson Throckmorton; sister, Carla Smith Bean; brother, Brent Olson; stepbrother, Lane Throckmorton; stepsisters, Vickie Gardner, Kathey Throckmorton and Kim Hoffman; daughter, Tranquilla “Tranny” (Jake) Brown Hanson; his grandchildren, Aurora, Lydya and Vontella; his life partner and friend, Jackie Thompson; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Monte always had a positive outlook on life, even with an extended stay at the VA for almost a full year. He will be missed by many.

A full military memorial service for friends and family will be held from 2-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Kimble LDS Stake Center in Caldwell, Idaho; a meal will be served afterward.
