R. (Roy) Scott Cunningham, 61, Nampa, completed his journey with cancer, having passed away at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of Scott's life will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday Feb. 22 at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S., Nampa, 466-3545. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories of Scott. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Scott's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 404 Nectarine St. in Nampa. R. (Roy) Scott Cunningham was born to Roy William and Sara (Sally) Cunningham in Rupert, Idaho, on Oct. 19, 1947. Scott was raised and educated in Rupert and graduated from Minico High School in 1966. He was baptized in the Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church in Rupert. Scott continued his education at the University of Idaho. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science and his master's degree in public administration. While attending the University of Idaho he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Scott was a lifelong Vandal fan. Upon completion of his education, Scott began his career with the State of Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. His first job was in the Burley Field Office where he was a child protection worker. It was during this time he married Edda Greenwell of Iceland. He continued with Health and Welfare for more than 30 years. Prior to his retirement in 2003 he was the Deputy Administrator of the Division of Family and Children's Services, the Administrator of the Idaho State School and Hospital and finished his career as the Administrator of the Division of Welfare. 
Scott married Linda Scott on Oct. 5, 1996. 
Scott loved his sobriety, family, music, entertaining friends and family, good food and occasionally, a fine cigar. He was a very talented musician and loved to share his music with family and friends. He was a very generous man. Scott was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa. 
Scott is survived by his wife, Linda (Scott) Cunningham, Nampa; his brother, Patrick and Barbara Cunningham, Florence, Ore., and his brother-in-law, Ron Scott, Nampa. He is also survived by his and Linda's children, Erika (Cass Davis) and Maia Greenwell-Cunningham, Moscow; Jon White (Lisa), Yuma, Ariz. and families; Scott White (Jennifer Herrera), Fruitland and families, as well as a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and his beloved aunt, Ruth Gurnsey, Nampa. 
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, J. Michael Cunningham and his wife, Edda, the mother of his children. 
Scott's family would like to express their sincere thanks to our medical family; Doctors Caroline DeFrang, Larry Fiorentino, staff, and volunteer Gil Wright of MSTI, Bonnie Kim Waite (and Dawn), Bonnie Vestal, E. Gregory Thompson, and Richard Martin. We are also grateful for the assistance from St. Luke's Hospice.
